Treat The Disabled With Care
With the advancement in the medical field the life expectancy has increased. But still in some areas lot many developments have to be made. Particularly when it comes about the elderly people they have not been able to completely eradicate illness. Many of the ailments leads to disability, they are considered inevitable and part and parcel with old age. But it need not be so.
The physical frailties like difficulty in walking, standing, moving around quickly, partial or complete blindness, disability in moving the joints, partial deafness etc are actually treatable. Some of the most chronic ailments that hit the elderly people are arthritis, rheumatism; problems related to the heart, diabetes, high blood pressure etc. In fact, studies have shown that people above the age of 65 yrs have 3.6% of dementia and more than 62.6% of elderly people show signs of cardiovascular diseases.
Among the senior high prevalence of gastrointestinal, urogental diseases, problems related to the eye and ear, orthopedic complaints, nervous breakdowns, high or low blood pressure and other surgical related problems prop up. By following ways one can treat the elderly with respect and can help them in overcoming their disability to a large extent.
Never ever treat their disability as inevitable and find appropriate treatment that suits their condition. Remember disablement requires physical assistance; the person who is seeing them has to be sensitive to their inability. They should treat them with care and should provide assistance.
Do not pity them or else they will loose confidence in themselves. Comfort them and support them. Try to avoid changing their place as they may find it confusing. Provide them a walking stick, hearing aid, walker and the like. Never treat them harshly, be polite with them.
But finally every member in the family should participate in providing care to the elderly. Do not assign a single family person to take care of the elderly person. It can be physically and emotionally exhaustive for them. By care and love they will overcome most of their in capabilities.
