Treating smelly feet
Feet are usually the most used part of our body. Sometimes people complain of stinking feet. The most common reason behind stinking feet is that on account of constant and prolonged used of closed footwear sweat builds up inside the shoes. Certain bacteria get attracted to the sweat on ones feet and start feeding on it. The organic acids excreted by these bacteria on the feet have a pungent odor which cause feet to smell.
Smelly feet can be treated and cured in a number of ways-
The most scientific approach towards solving the problem is to wash ones feet regularly using an antibacterial or acne soap and then to dry them meticulously. It is important not to allow ones feet to remain moist for a long time. One may even apply foot powder inside the shoes or use an antiperspirant in order to restrict sweat formation.
One should avoid wearing socks made of synthetic material. It is best to use cotton socks or those made up of an absorbent material. This helps to soak up the sweat thereby preventing odour formation. Further one should avoid wearing the same pair of shoes for two consecutive days. This specially applies to those who wear sneakers. They should ideally maintain two pairs of sneakers and wear them alternatively. Do not wear smelly shoes.
While remaining indoor it is healthy to wash ones feet with warm water, dry them thoroughly and either walk barefoot or wear light sandals that allow free passage of air around the feet. One could also wash his feet with green tea. The latter is known to be useful in fighting off feet stench.
If the problem appears to be a persistent one then one should also look for fungal infections between the toes and at the base of the feet. In case there appears to be some form of redness or dry skin the same should be treated.
If the self care and preventative measures do not help solve the problem then it is best to consult a professional as the persistence of the problem may also stem from an infection or may even be hereditary in character.
