Love addiction is quite similar in certain ways to the other forms of addiction like alcohol, drugs, etc. However, in this addiction a person is addicted to another person or to the feeling of love itself.
There are many types of love addiction and accordingly the behavior of the addicted people also varies to a large extent. Some common types of love addicts are obsessed love addicts, codependency addicts, romance addicts, relationship addicts, Narcissistic love addicts, seductive withholders, etc.
There is often a thin line between falling in love and getting addicted to love. Many times it is found that a person is attracted to another person and starts idealizing him/her which leads to a blind attachment.
The person then loses the capability of analyzing the situation in a practical manner and a strong belief is imbibed in his mind that the person of his/her affection is the only one who is capable of bringing happiness in his/her life.
Along with this feeling, the person becomes extremely attached and obsessed about his affectionate person. Insecurity also sets in along with this obsession.
All these in turn lead the person to involve in inappropriate, unhealthy or harmful behavior which results in physical and mental pain and suffering. Thus, it can be said that insecurity along with obsession and excessive or blind attachment are the primary signs of a love addiction.
