Utilizing Your Lunch Break
After having a morning packed with meetings, presentations or just trying to meet deadlines it is lunch hour and you have some time before you get back to work. Normally people work through the break or eat at there work station or maybe some may take a break and chit chat. Here are some tips to utilize that time in not just eating or chit chatting but using it in healthier, more fruitful manner:
Most important is taking a break. Even a short break of twenty minutes can energize you or prepare you for the second half of the work day. After taking your meal instead of just loitering here and there, go for a walk, take your friends also. You can walk around the block or a nearby park. This unconscious fitness routine will help you de-stress and keep you active.
People who can afford to take a longer break can then take an exercise class like aerobics, yoga or even join a gym. Anything that makes you physically active is good. You will feel healthier and energetic to complete your pending jobs. Also, make sure you take a light meal after your workout.
If you are not an exercise person or maybe already physically active (because mind you, too much of exercise can lead to weight gain) then plan your schedule for the week– your meals, your outings, your activities and even your career. Remember, the best way to stay hassle-free in life is to have a plan for everyday. We are clearer and focused when we write it down.
Your productivity will increase in all the spheres of life. For example: Once you have planned your meals you know what ingredients you need and what you already have. Now you can utilize your lunch hour in buying the ingredients and leave your evenings free and because you are time bound you don’t waste your time here and there. Having a strategy will provide to you great mental health.
Another way of utilizing your time is expanding your network of contacts. The key to corporate success is in effective networking. In this tight competitive, stressful environment make sure you play well instead of worrying about your future. Arrange a lunch date with a colleague from the other department or someone who can be a help in your career or maybe just e-mail your friends and relatives around the world. You never know who comes up with a good opportunity. Being ahead in the game keeps you optimistic and away from psychological problems.
You could also just relax by going to a spa for a pedicure, manicure or a facial. Remember, it’s important to treat your body inside out. Also, you can catch up with some reading as it is a great way to take your mind off work for a little while.
