Various Types Of Breast Cancer Tumors
What do you exactly understand by breast cancer tumor? In simple words, it is a cancerous tumor that had formed inside the breast. The breast cancer tumor is a cluster of breast tissue that is developing inside the breast in a very unusual as well as in an unmanageable manner. Sometimes the tumor can affect all the tissues surrounding it when cancer cells flake off into the blood stream, and spread to other parts of the body.
The biggest danger of breast cancer is – not limited to just one kind; there are several types of breast cancers that can occur in the tissue of the breast. In most of the cases, we are told to look for lumps in the breast, which may be a tumor. But according to studies, around 75 -80% of these breast lumps are harmless. However, not every type of breast cancer tumor always forms bumps.
Breast cancer tumors are generally classified into two different groups- invasive and non-invasive tumors. Most of these tumors occur in the milk ducts of the breast; where, the less common ones occur in the breast lobules. Let us give you the elaborate descriptions of different types of breast cancer tumors. Here are they:
Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS)
This type of breast cancer tumor forms in the lining of the milk ducts present in the breast. These are probably the most common type of breast cancers found in women, all over the world.
These appear as small lumps which are non- invasive in nature. Doctors consider these tumors in milk ducts, as early form of cancer in breasts. If these are left untreated for a longer period of time, they can be fatal.
Lobular Carcinoma In Situ (LCIS)
There are several lobules present in the breast, which helps the breasts to produce milk. These lobules are connected to the milk ducts. Sometimes, unusual form of cells gets collected in the breast lobules.
Therefore this abnormality occurs. The existence of this type of cancer in the breast signifies that an invasive cancer may develop in future. LCIS is non-invasive in nature but it acts as a warning signal.
Doctors may identify its occurrence during a mammogram; however, it doesn’t form any tumor like structure.
Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC)
An invasive cancer starts developing when it forms a mass of cancer cells but slowly it becomes persistent and starts spreading. When these cells cross the limits of their growth, the cancer becomes invasive.
As the invasive ductal carcinoma develops inside the milk ducts, they strike the milk duct walls and begin affecting other tissues of the breast. Sometimes, this particular type of breast lump also starts developing in other parts of the body; hence the term invasive is used with it.
Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC)
When ILC forms in the breast, you won’t be able to recognize these because they occur in the lobules. They do not appear as lumps in breast. Slowly, these tumors spread outside the lobular ducts and start affecting other tissues of the breast.
It appears more or less like a pancake, as it spreads out. In comparison to IDC, LDC is less common.
