Vitamins For Children

Childhood is one of the most important stages in anybody’s life. It is the stage when the very base of future foundation is made, whether it is physically or mentally. During this important stage the kids require all the essential nutrients, minerals and vitamins for healthy development of the body.

During this age the kids do a lot of physical activity, they play and hence burn their calories very easily. The growth rate at this age is maximum and hence care should be taken that they get all the essentials for the body. If proper diet is not consumed then they deficiencies should be made good with other dietary supplements.

Importance of vitamin in kids-

Vitamin A is abundant in milk and other infant products. Though it is needed in the body but excess of it should be avoided. Vitamin C is important in arresting and preventing cold and infections that occurs in respiratory tract. The deficiency of vitamin C can cause scurvy. Infants below one year of age and who are mostly dependent on milk can have this deficiency. Another popular source of getting vitamin C is fruits and vegetables.

Iron is essential for the growth and development of muscle. It helps in evading anemia and keeps the hemoglobin count normal. Food rich in iron should be taken. Calcium is one of the major essential nutrients. The kids are in their development stage, calcium is important for bone formation. Younger kids require around 800 mg of calcium daily while the older kids of adolescent age need 1200-1500 mg of calcium.

Vitamin K is important to ensure good blood clotting. Vitamin D is important for bones and can be absorbed from the natural sunlight. Its deficiency can lead to rickets. Fluoride is important for teeth. The human body gets this from water. Similarly, zinc is important for growth and development of sex organs especially among the adolescent kids.

Remember a healthy diet is essential for kids. Parent’s interference is a must. It is better to inculcate healthy eating habits in kids since the beginning and to avoid junk food. One can even take the help of dietician to see that the child is getting right amount of all the nutrients. Any deficiency can effect physical and mental development in child.
