Vitamin B9- vitamin B is popularly known as folic acid. It is also a water soluble vitamin. Its importance in the body cannot be over looked as it helps in breaking down of carbohydrates and fats in the body. It is also responsible for the proper functioning of the nervous system and the digestive system. It is through this vitamin the genetic materials DNA and RNA are produced. Hence during pregnancy and during the periods of infancy the body requires more amount of folic acid. It is also good in prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Some important sources are- beans, rice, green leafy vegetables, soy beans, yeast, beet root, oranges, legumes and salmon.

Deficiency- the deficiency of folic acid leads to the poor growth, forgetfulness etc. it also results in diarrhea, inflammation in tongue, ulcers in tongue, loss of appetite. Among the pregnant women the deficiency of folic acid results in defects related to birth.

Vitamin B-x- it is popularly known as PARA-AMINO BENZOIC ACID (PABA). Though it is not really a vitamin, but is actually a part of folic acid structure. It is important for the synthesization of bacteria in the intestines. It is also responsible for the production of folic acid by the bacteria that is present in the intestine. Ointments with PABA are used for treatment of sunburns. It has sun screening properties. It is also good to bring back the natural color of hair.

Some important sources are- molasses, kidney, grains, liver etc.

Deficiency- the deficiency of PABA is very rare. But even then if the deficiency persists then it can lead to depression, headaches, premature graying of hair, eczema, nervousness etc.

Chloine- choline is one of the essential nutrients that are available in wide variety of foods. It is responsible for the maintenance of the cell membrane and the nervous system. It is also important as it arrest weight and puts check on the cholesterol development.

Some important sources are- oats, egg, Soya, nuts, beef are rich with choline.

Deficiency- though the deficiency due to choline does not happen easily. But even if it happens then it leads to diseases of the liver, high blood pressure, problems in the kidneys and increase in cholesterol. The normal functioning of the brain is also impaired.
