Vitamins That Are Important To Our Body-IV

Inositol- it is not exactly vitamin. Inositol is actually a member of the vitamin B complex. Our body can create this Inositol. Its importance in the body cannot be overlooked as it helps in the maintenance of cell membranes, bone marrow, eyes, intestines and brain.

Some important sources are- it is available in brown rice, nuts, raisins, wheat germ, yeast, molasses, oats, bananas, liver and vegetables.

Deficiency- the Deficiency of Inositol can lead to eczema, problems related to eye, increase in cholesterol, hair loss etc.

Multivitamins- they are a combination of numerous vitamins and are available in form of pills. They are actually dietary supplements and are meant to cater the additional requirements of vitamins in the body. People with dietary imbalances need them most. Pregnant women and nursing mothers are also suggested to take multi vitamins.

People of 60+ also do not gain nutrients. One of the common problems is on account of difficulty in absorption. This extra dose of vitamins can be supplemented by the use of multivitamin pill. Vegetarians due their restricted diet are also sometimes devoid of all the natural vitamins and nutrients they need for the body. The can make the deficiencies good by the consumption of a multivitamin pill.

Minerals- they are in fact micronutrients that facilitates the normal growth and functioning of the body. We get minerals from water and food. We also gain them from the dietary supplements. Minerals are of two types. Bulk minerals and trace minerals. The former is needed in large quantities while the later is needed in small quantities. Calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, chloride, sulphur and potassium are macro minerals. While iron, copper, iodine, cobalt, manganese, selenium are trace minerals.

Calcium is used for the development of teeth and bones. Dairy products, leafy vegetables are rich in calcium.

The importance of iron is to carry the oxygen from the lungs to all the parts of the body. Iron can be found in leafy vegetables, dried fruits, tuna, salmon, whole grains, red meat.

Potassium is needed for the nervous system. It ensures the level of water in the tissues and the blood. Citrus fruits, broccoli, leafy vegetables, dried fruits, bananas and legumes are rich in iron.

Zinc is needed to strengthen the immunity system of the body. It heals the wounds and helps in the development of the cells. It is available in beef, lamb, legumes and pork.

For overall development we all need these vitamins and minerals in required quantities.
