Walking for fitness

You have an undeniable right to be fit and in good health. Being healthy and slim does wonders to your self confidence and also makes you less likely to face stress related issues. There is an old saying that “A healthy mind lies in a healthy body”, and if you do believe in this statement and want to practice it, you need to inculcate exercise in your daily routine. There is just no other alternative.

However, if you are not one of those sporty types who likes to sweat too much and really push there bodies to the limit, then walking is just the right sort of exercise for you. Walking is no more considered just a means of commutation. Man has realized its mental and physical benefits.

He has recognized that such a simple exercise like this, which does not require much skill, could do wonders for his fitness. The biggest advantage of walking is that it can be done by anyone; anywhere. All that’s needed is a pair of comfortable walking shoes. It does not require any expensive gears.

There are several fitness related advantages of walking. For instance, Weight reduction. Brisk walking increases your heart rate giving the same advantages as an aerobic work out. It also tones the thigh and hips. Walking is also the cheapest stress management system. It helps you to relax and beat depression.

According to a survey, more than 80% of the people suffer from back problems. Taking a walk regularly can help solve this issue as walking promotes muscular development and also strengthens the pelvis and lower back muscles.

As we grow older our bones start loosing there mineral content. They become brittle and prone to fractures. This condition is called osteoporosis. Osteoporosis can effect at any age but the female population is more likely to be affected by it especially after the menopause.

The logical reason behind this is that there is a considerable decrease in the hormone estrogen inside the female body after menopause leading to loss of calcium which in turn causes bone related problems.
Intake of calcium and exercise can prevent it. And walking is the easiest and safest form of exercise.

Walking is best for heart patients as strenuous exercise can be fatal.
According to researchers, exercise increases the level of endorphins which give us a sense of wellbeing.

We all need some “my time” and walking gives us that personal space. It works like a meditation.
Walking at any speed will help but taking a brisk walk is better. But remember, you must do some sort of warm up before starting to walk and increase the time of walking gradually.

It is truly said that “The journey of a thousand mile begins with just one step” so don’t just sit there start walking and take the first step towards healthy, fit and slim you.
