Warning Signs Of Suicide

Warning signs are those behaviors or words that suggest that an individual is at a looming risk for suicide or suicidal behaviors. Individuals who are contemplating suicide will typically give some warnings of their intentions to people close to them. Here are some signs of possible suicide contemplation:

When the person talks about dying a little too much:
If there is mention of dying, jumping off, shooting oneself, or other types of self harm then such gestures and attempts must be taken seriously. The person may be actually thinking about attempting one of them.

Change in Personality:
If you find a sudden change in the persons personality, for instance they seem sad, withdrawn, irritable, anxious, tired, indecisive or apathetic then that’s a very strong indication that they are going through some sort of depression which could lead to hopelessness and ultimately to suicide. Moreover, if you find that they can’t concentrate on school, work, or routine tasks, then that should alert you, to at least have a heart to heart conversation with them.

Sleeplessness and loss of appetite:
Insomnia, often with early waking or oversleeping, nightmares could be an indication of immense stress over something. If this stress increases to an unbearable point then it can lead to an urge to commit suicide. A person might even be sleepless because he is already thinking about suicide and planning it. If any of your close ones is experiencing such problem then you should get very alert. They might need help. Moreover, a loss of appetite and weight, or overeating can also indicate such tendencies.

A low self-esteem:
A low self esteem is another indication of possible suicidal tendencies. If the person is feeling worthlessness, shame, overpowering guilt, self-hatred, “everyone would be better off without me” attitude then you should really watch out for them because they might try to kill themselves.
