Warning Signs Of Teen Mental Health Problems

Physical health of an individual is of utmost importance but mental health can not be ignored. Mental health of an individual is equally important. Mental health influences the life of the teens in several ways. It affects how they make important decisions, handle and manage stress and relate to one another. Mental health is imperative at every stage of life.

The teen years are very demanding which creates too much mental and social pressure on them. Teenagers may be under stress to perform well in their schools and colleges, make vital life decisions, and get along with their family. Mental health problems are tough, painful and can be serious too. They may result in loss of friends, academic failure, family conflict and can even be life threatening. Common warning signs of teen mental health problems are given below.

Try to observe your child’s behavior. If he or she has inexplicable fears, cries a lot or overreacts to things or is angry and furious most of the time or is too much worried or restless then you must be concerned about your child’s mental health. If your child experiences these symptoms then he or she might be afflicted by some mental health problems.

If your child has any mental problem he or she may feel worthless or guilty too much. After a loss or death your child may be in grief for a longer duration. He or she may be apprehensive about physical look and may also be scared that his or her mind is under the control of others or is out of control.

In case your child has any mental health problem he or she may also show other warning signs like too much daydreaming and he or she may often talk about suicide, consider that it is too hard to handle life, and often hear unexplained voices. Your child may also exhibit unexplained changes in eating and sleeping habits and may want to be alone all the times and avoid family and friends.

Some other warning signs of teen mental health problems are drug abuse, alcohol abuse, lack of concentration, regular nightmares and violent behavior. You need to take care of your teenager so that untoward incidents can be prevented and no harm is caused to your child. You should discuss with your family doctor or the school teacher about your child.
