Ways to Increase your Metabolism
First thing we need to know is what is metabolism? What are its functions and how does it work? The daily chores of our body like- drinking, eating, digesting, sleeping, repairing itself etc, need energy to be done. This energy is produced by burning calories. This process is known as metabolism.
People always say that “I put on weight because my metabolism is slow”. Instead of burning the calories, slow metabolism makes the body store extra calories as fat in our body.
Now, we know that to lose weight we need to increase our rate of metabolism and to do this we need to know the reason why it decreases and the ways to increase it. The symptoms of slow metabolism are – fatigue, constipation, weight gain, low blood pressure. The reason for slow metabolism could be some medical condition, age, yo-yo dieting, less muscle and genes. Every body has different body type and bone structure but by changing certain habits you can improve the rate of metabolism.
First you need to rule out any type of medical condition. The rate of burning the calories or metabolism is increased in people who have more muscle than fat. You need to increase your muscle mass because muscle burns five times more calories than fat. You need to choose eight to ten exercises for every muscle group. Increase the rate of heart beat will automatically increase your metabolism. Don’t forget to add some cardio vascular activities in your exercise routine.
Eat often. Instead of eating less or eating three big meals, eat eight smaller meals. Eating regularly does not let body go in starvation mode. But eat according to the requirement of your body. If you are more active you need more calories but if you are in a sitting job you need to eat less. Try eating a balanced diet. Eat whole foods instead of processed. For example- instead of drinking orange juice, eat orange.
