Weight Loss Tips For Kids

We have been reading and hearing about the adverse effects of obesity. Obesity in children is growing like an epidemic. The changing lifestyle and our eating habits are mostly responsible for the rising case of obesity. According to the latest statistics, almost 30% children between the age of 6 and 19 are obese or overweight in the United States.

You must know that obesity in children causes many health problems including chronic diseases like high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. Kids who stay obese during their adolescence tend to remain the same in their adulthood. Parents of an overweight child become concerned about their child’s health and try to help them come out of this problem. If you have an obese kid, you must be worried too. You may want to help your kid shed his/her excessive weight. Here are some useful weight loss tips for kids.

We know that even for adults, it is not an easy task to lose their extra weights. So accept the fact that it will not be an easy task for your child either. It may take time but if you and your child will try sincerely, you will surely succeed in helping your obese child to lose his/her extra weight.

Your first step should be to stop your child from further weight gain. To achieve this goal you must eliminate or limit foods containing high fats from your child’s diet. You must stop purchasing unhealthy food items such as chips, cookies, soda, pastries and other fast foods and processed foods.

Introduce some basics changes in your kid’s diet such as substituting his milk with non-fat milk and diet drinks. In place of yogurt you can give him plain yogurt. Give him healthy and nutritious snacks in place of deep fried snacks and processed snacks. You should not worry too much about calories, fat grams and carbohydrates; instead feed him healthy meals and snacks.

Sugary drinks such as sodas and juices contain high calorie counts; hence avoid these items and choose other healthier alternatives. Exercise is must to lose weight. Hence find different ways for your kids to do exercise regularly. Motivate your kid to participate in school sports. Encourage your kids to take up other regular physical activities such as swimming, cycling, riding bikes, skating, and also play different games at home. Become a role model for your kid.
