What Is Cesarean Or C Section?
A cesarean section is a surgical procedure used to deliver your baby through an incision first in your abdomen and then in your uterus. C section is done only if the vaginal delivery is not possible or is risky for the mother and the baby. Sometimes the C section is pre-planned due to the problems in pregnancy or if you already had a C section but sometimes while monitoring the fetus if the doctors find the fetus in distress during labor and delivery then a C section is performed in emergency.
There is no need for you to panic if you are recommended a C section. If you are not in emergency you can do some research work. Talk to your partner and caregivers. You must ask the doctor why he/she has recommended the surgery, the benefits and the risks of the surgery that you might have to go through. By learning about the process you will be more relaxed and will be able to take a wise decision.
A cesarean section is a major operation, there are many risks involved for both the mother and the child. Mother can suffer from incision hernia, wound infections, pelvic pain, bowl blockage and future fertility problems. Intense pain in the incision is also found in some women. Another thing which was found in women who had their first child with C section was an increased risk of low birth weight and still birth in their second child.
Children who are born through C section are at higher risk for asthma and many other health complications. Cesarean do save some lives for what we should be thankful but the number of C sections is rising day by day. We need to ask ourselves if all the cesareans are necessary. There is a lot of information available on how to have a safe and healthy birth. Trying to get all the information and coming to decision can be time and energy consuming but it’s worth the effort.
