What Kind Of Parent Are You?
Every parent has a different idea of raising a child but more or less all parents can be devised into four categories.
Authoritative:
Authoritative parents are both demanding and responsive. They keep a check on the child’s behavior and have clear rules and regulations but they are not restrictive. Parents suit the standard and expect a certain level of achievement, good behavior and responsibility from there children but they are not controlling and encourage an open discussion on any of there open dialogue. The child’s opinion and feelings are taken into consideration. The parents show there affection and appreciation.
Authoritarian:
Such parents always try to be in control. They make rules and make there child follow these rules strictly. They are very critical of the child who is not able to follow them. No choices or options are given to the child and no warmth and affection is shown towards the child. They are forceful in there beliefs. The children are not allowed to think for themselves because all the thinking is done by parents for them. Only thing the child has to do is obey.
Permissive:
Parents who are non-demanding but very responsive to a child’s needs and wishes are called permissive parents. They are scared to confront their child for any of his negative behavior in fear of their child not liking them. What matters most to them is that by the end of the day the child should like them. Rather than them controlling the child, the child controls them.
Neglectful:
These parents are uninvolved and uninterested in their children. They don’t offer any support and have no expectations from the child. Neglectful parents do not monitor or supervise the behavior of there child. They are absent both emotionally and physically. Children of such parents perform poorly in all aspects of life.
Personally authoritative parenting is the best style. It produces well rounded individuals with high self esteem and confidence.
