What Makes the Skin Oily?

A skin which is oily is shiny, greasy, thick and very dull in appearance. Such skin constantly has coarse pores and acne that reoccur. They can be extremely embarrassing. Blackheads and whiteheads along with blemishes are present in quite a number in such skin surface, especially over the face, nose and the cheek areas.

Oily skin is due to extremely oil producing sebaceous glands. These glands are hyperactive and produce natural oil more than needed. The oil keeps oozing even after washing and cleansing; this gives the face its typical shine. In due course of time the pores of the face gets widened and the skin gains a coarse look.

Oily skin glands produce a stuff known as sebum. It is naturally occurring thick lubricant of the skin. Excess of sebum may become thick, greasy and heavy in texture. This grease or natural oil further attracts dirt, grime and other dust from the environment. Spots, white heads, acne, black heads and blemishes thus occur frequently, and management of such skin may become woe. Such skin needs extra attention and care when it comes to cleansing and exfoliating. Apart from this frequent steam can also curb the excess oil production.

This condition happens mostly in teenagers due to the hormonal imbalance. But one cannot avoid its occurrence at even later stage of age. Generally with increase in age the skin becomes dry naturally. The sebum flow is more in adolescent age and reduces with increase of age. Among the females and during pregnancy and menopause the hormonal imbalance may cause these acne and pimples to break out, thus indicating the hyperactivity of sebaceous glands.

People with oily skin are bestowed with mixed blessing. The best thing is such skin ages slowly. The fine lines, wrinkles and other discolorations of the skin occur late in such skin. The chances of sun burn and redness are also very low in such skin type. The skin doesn’t freckles easily.
