Yoga Etiquette

Before going or joining a yoga class one must be well acquainted with some of the dos and don’ts of yoga. They are also known as some basic yoga etiquettes. These are the basic step that will help one to enter into a different setting and will create as sense of ease and comfort. Here are some basics which one must follow in yoga classes or studios.

Remove the shoes- in most of the yoga classes there are a place for shoes to keep. You can even in the locker that has been provided. Yoga is practiced barefooted; hence it’s better to leave the footwear outside the room so as to maintain the hygiene of that place.

Switch off your cell phone- let this become your habit with each session; you either switch off your mobile or keep in silent mode but inside the locker or bag. Nothing will be embarrassing with your cell phones ringing between the classes.

Being punctual- maintain time. Its better that you reach the place ten minutes prior. If you have arrived late for more than 10 min then do not enter the class. You will break the rhythm of the class. You can either wait for another session or can came some other day.

Respect the teacher- your teacher is your guru. For the next hour make it a point that you follow your teacher style and teachings. Try to follow the instructions.

Maintain variations- be aware about the level of class that you are attending. The advanced class poses may be difficult to do. Its better that you learn the basic pose and later learn the difficult poses. The basic class people better stick to the simpler basic version in the beginning. You can gradually pick up the later poses in the other advanced classes.

Visiting the loo- you can refresh yourself at the period of rest like the dog’s pose or the child’s pose. But let this not become a habit.

Never skip shavasana- this is the final relaxation pose and hence must never be skipped.
