The first and the foremost thing in yoga is correct breathing technique. There should not be any kind of stress in order to get the maximum benefits out of it. One should be able to hold the breath and then release it along with holding the postures. Breathing through nose to the stomach, one can also incorporate the “dirgha” and “ujjayi” pranayama for breathing.

Always start the yoga with short meditation. It will bring focus from the inner side. For this one can start with simple postures like the seated twist or forward fold. Next stages, can do the basic postures of dog, cat, cobra, child, mountain etc. the yoga should be finished up with a “shavasana.” This posture could be maintained for 5-10 mins.

It is always suggested to practice yoga at the break of the dawn. One should well educate oneself when not to practice yoga. One should also know about the contradictions of yoga. During menstruation, blood pressure, pregnancy and in chronic injuries certain postures must not be done. And while doing other simple yoga special care and attention has to be taken.

By reading the instructions and illustrative pictures one experiment and explore different postures of yoga. But remember one should always start slowly and should enjoy and feel the rhythm and alignment of the postures. Immediately stop in case of pain. Always practice those postures that you can do. The floor postures are easier than the standing postures.

Each session can last for 60-90 mins for 6 days a week. Clothing should be comfortable that do not restrict the movement or the flow. Yoga should be practiced in empty stomach. One can drink small quantities of water before practicing but avoid taking anything during practice.
