Your Self Image: Are You Happy With It?

So many of us wage silent battles within ourselves everyday. We test ourselves against our desired self image and a never ending match begins. We judge ourselves, are overly critical sometimes and condemn ourselves to low self-esteem.

Self esteem. It’s a very powerful word and a lot of who we are and what we can become depends on it. Speaking in simple terms, self esteem is the way we view ourselves. This of course is largely a reflection of what we think the world views us as. Unfortunately, for most of us, our ideal image and the actual self image never converge. This results in low self esteem, low confidence and a skewed sense of self.

Having a level of confidence that not many can challenge, is a tough job. People have to work for years before they finally achieve the ‘confidence nirvana’. The good news is that it can be done.

A lot of people make the terrible mistake of accepting that living with a low self esteem is normal and nothing can be done about it. Don’t let such feelings mar your progress on the road to high self esteem. Don’t get disheartened if you are not able to achieve the desired results by your deadline. Chances are, the deadline that you have set for yourself is at fault, not your goals.

If you give up, you will never be able to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself and the low self esteem will continue to haunt you. A lot of people give up too quickly because they find giving up easier than putting in a regular effort and hard work. Over a period of time, they develop this subconscious need to feel sorry about themselves. They become victims of their own design. This pulls them further down and makes sure that they are not able to get out of the vicious cycle of low or negative self esteem.

As soon as you realize this problem, you will see that change begins to occur immediately. Thus begins your recovery. Be your own best friend and stop comparing yourself to others. Discover your own unique qualities and try to make them better. In your heart, know that you are an amazing person and are very special. You will see the change immediately. Once you start approving yourself, everyone will quickly follow suit.
